Electric vehicle charging etiquette at work

Electric vehicle charging etiquette at work

Whenever a new technology is introduced, it takes time to follow the proper etiquette. An electric vehicle (EV) is one of the inventions which has been introduced and developed in recent years. The EV is powerful, easy to maintain, and quiet when we compare it with the internal combustion engine (ICE). The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) has been noticed gradually in terms of saving gas and many more, but an EV is different from the internal combustion engine (ICE).

There are many things to consider when we talk about EV etiquette at charging stations. The EV charging stations or public charging stations are available to assist those customers who are using electric vehicles and to avoid some unpleasant scenes at the charging stations. These public charging stations are made to provide a better experience to everyone who is driving electric vehicles.

To promote a corporate culture that encourages employees to drive EV, electric vehicle charging stations have been installed for employees and visitors at most of the places. Making the charging experience best, few workplace charging etiquettes should be followed so that the experience would be better every time.

  1.     Charge up and move sideways…

Move your car the moment you are done the charging, don’t squat so that others can also charge their EVs. EV charging spots are for charging, not spots for parking! If your charging session is completed, or you have adequate range to comfortably reach your destination, unplug and move your car to give chance to others to the plugin.

2.      Safe practice

Safety first so practice safe charging. Try to maintain the cord length and after use, neatly wind the cord to its designated holder and maintain some distance from other vehicles. Avoid overstretching and fic the length as per necessity. Always return the cord to its holster.

3.      EV spots are for EVs

This is very important to understand everyone that there is a designated place for EVs called EV spots and those spots are only for EVs. It looks unfair when other than EV users park their internal combustion car in a charge spot where EVs are supposed to be plugged in.

4.      Charge when necessary

Try to avoid charging when you are not using or you don’t need a charge. You should not occupy the spots if your car does not need a charge. Leave that spot for another EV driver so that they can charge it and use their electric vehicle on time. Try to charge your EV at home and make your workplace as a secondary place to charge.

5.      Don’t unplug others EV

This looks weird when you unplug other’s EV without letting them know. Be considerate and wait for your turn. When green light starts blinking then you can unplug the charger but be soft when you are touching somebody else’s car. Make sure you close the charge door so that confusion won’t take place about charging again.

The workplace charging station is a privilege provided by the company. So try to maintain a healthy culture because you are an ambassador and ambassador should follow and maintain the strategy.
